Bighorn Fire Update

As scheduled, Trico turned off its generator to perform maintenance earlier this morning (7-6-2020).  The maintenance was completed, and the generator was refueled.  The generator has been restarted and is currently operating.

Power has been restored to most of Mt. Lemmon.  This includes, Summerhaven, Radio Ridge, Soldiers Camp, Mt. Bigelow, Organization Ridge, Palisades, Girl Scout Camp and Willow Canyon.  The east slope of Mt. Lemmon remains deenergized.

Trico continues to work with fire officials to assess the extent of any damage to the line serving Mt. Lemmon.  It may be necessary to deenergize certain lines as firefighters continue their work.  We will continue to provide updates on our website ( and on social media.

Thank you to the firefighters who continue to do a great job of protecting Mt. Lemmon.

Trico Foundation awards $450,000 in scholarships

For the second year in a row, the Trico Foundation will award more than $400,000 in scholarships. For the 2020‑21 academic year, 86 new and returning students will receive a scholarship, totaling $450,000.

“It is fabulous that Trico can help these young people with this amount of scholarship money,” said Eric Abrams, retired principal at Ironwood Elementary who serves on the Trico Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee.

“Trico’s community investment in our students is sincerely appreciated,” said Brett Bonner, Assistant Superintendent at Sahuarita Unified School District.

Alaura Millet, who attends Brigham Young University-Idaho, thanked the Trico Foundation for the support and assistance she has received during her college career.

“Your contribution has made a difference in my life and it motivates me to continue to work hard to accomplish my dreams.” –Alaura Millet

“Many college students nowadays graduate with thousands of dollars of debt hanging over them,” she said. “I feel extremely lucky because receiving this scholarship has helped me be able to afford a college education without going into debt. This has given me confidence as I enter my last year of college and look forward to the future.”

The deadline to apply for a scholarship for the 2020-21 academic year has passed. Check back in January 2021.

Since its inception in 1983, the Trico Foundation has awarded more than $2.5 million – benefiting over 600 students – in scholarships to Trico Members and their dependent children.

A selection committee made up of area educators reviews all scholarship applications and determines which students receive a Trico Foundation scholarship. The committee is independent of the Trico Board.

The Trico Foundation is a non-profit organization that grants scholarships to Trico Members.
