Trico’s mission is to provide safe, reliable energy, service and support in an environmentally responsible and cost-effective manner.
Renewable energy is an important part of our energy mix. We continue to hear from our Members that they want renewable energy programs, and we will continue to respond to our community with cost-effective renewable energy options, such as the recently completed Avion Community Solar Project.
Avion, located on former farmland in the Town of Marana, is a new kind of farming. It will produce more than 30,000 megawatt-hours of electric energy each year, or enough to power about 3,000 average residential homes in the Trico service territory.
This is the latest step in our journey that began in 2005 when Bob and Janet Hall installed our first residential rooftop system. In the past 10 years, Trico’s energy mix has transformed from less than 1% solar energy to almost 14% solar energy. (An additional 5.3 percent of our energy comes from hydropower generation). We are already looking at new potential projects.
Changes in technology and the market have contributed to making renewables more cost effective. This, along with increased interest among our Members, has Trico finding new ways to bring the benefits of solar to our service areas.
We are going to take advantage of the new technologies that are improving and emerging so quickly, and as the cost of large-scale projects continues to come down, all our Members receive the benefits of programs like these.
