Keep your valuable electronics safe by protecting them from the surges that can damage or destroy them.
During a power outage, turn off electrical appliances and unplug major equipment, including air conditioners, computers and TVs. The power may come back in surges, which can damage electronics. Your circuits could overload when power returns if all your electronics are still on and plugged in. Once the power has been restored, gradually turn on appliances and equipment one at a time.
Power strips and surge protectors are not the same. Not all power strips offer surge protection. If you have expensive electronics, you may want to consider a surge protector.
A smart strip is an even better option. With smart strips, one outlet serves as a master, receiving power all the time. The other outlets do not receive power until the master device is turned on. This is ideal for home entertainment setups.
