Attention parents: Your high school junior could go on a FREE trip to D.C.!

Each year, Trico sends high school juniors on a all-expenses-paid tour of the nation’s capital for a week of sightseeing, immersion in history and making lifelong friendships—all while having fun and learning about the cooperative business model.

Highlights of the 2019 Washington Youth Tour included seeing monuments and memorials, exploring a variety of Smithsonian museums, the U.S. Marine Corps Museum, Holocaust Memorial Museum, U.S. Capitol Building tour, Mount Vernon, a Potomac River cruise and dance with students from other states, and a Washington Nationals baseball game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Students also get the chance to sit down with staffers and actual Congressmen and women and discuss relevant topics that affect them and their local communities.

“My favorite part about the trip was getting to meet people from all over the state and the nation,” said Delaney McGehee, who attends Pusch Ridge Christian Academy. “This week in D.C. was not like any camp or conference I had been to before and I am grateful for this experience. I now better understand what a cooperative is and how they impact the communities they serve. Because of this trip, I am interested in working for a cooperative in the future.”

Another student, Hailey Thompson, stated, “I had the most amazing experience in Washington, D.C. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime trip. I would urge all my friends to apply for this trip. I got much more out of this trip than I had to put in and being able to go to D.C. and experience everything I did has definitely made me a better person. I met the most amazing people and I have a deeper respect, gratitude and understanding of our country, leaders and cooperatives. I am forever grateful to Trico for sponsoring this trip and allowing me to go.”

Trico is now accepting applications for the 2020 Washington Youth Tour. To be eligible for the Washington Youth Tour, applicant must be a high school junior and the dependent child of a Trico Electric Cooperative Member. The deadline to apply is November 1, 2019.
