Washington Youth Tour
Washington Youth Tour: The trip of a lifetime!
Each year, Trico sends two to four students on an all-expenses paid trip to our nation's capitol. Approximately 1,000 students from around the country take part in this week-long event, learning about our government, our nation's history as well as electric cooperatives.
The tour is coordinated by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), a Washington-based organization representing the nation's 1,000 electric co-ops. Together these systems provide electric energy to more than 120 million people in 46 states.
Students are selected based on a short essay as well as an interview. All children of Trico Members that are juniors in high school are eligible to attend.
Washington Youth Tour students take part in a variety of activities such as:
- Meeting members of Congress
- Touring famous monuments and historical sites
- Taking a boat cruise on the Potomac River
The application deadline for the 2010 Tour has already passed. Trico will be accepting applications for the next Washington Youth Tour next fall.
